Negative to Positive: okay.. but Instantly??

Channel some of your anger/frustration/blah blah.. negative energy to do something productive, is hard... but possible.
My Sweet Recipe: I probably have been practicing this since a long back, may be childhood.. so it takes practice and lots of patience...not that I have mastered it but started realizing that i am doing this.

Step 1: surround yourself with someone who you know will bring you out of it or have the capability to divert your mind instantly. I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by someone like that all my life - first my brother and then my husband...
In effect, this lets you hold off your negative feelings and even subside them, buys you time to start thinking on it with a fresh view..
This works most of the time, and off you go figuring out things on yourself in your noble and calm self, instead of like an outrageously angry or senseless person

Step 2: Think what's the need of the hour. Its like a no brainer.. how long do you think you should be dwelling on your negative feelings about what happened... who is it affecting? who gets to loose all the clock time that could be used for something else? yeah you guessed it right!

But yes, it cant be done in a blink, you don't have a "turn-off your feelings" switch on you like Vampires do.. it takes practice for humans, and even then we can just lower it to an extent, if not turn-off.
What i do? I come back to work environment, see the recent emails, something that does not directly relate to the earlier frustrating situation; get my mind to "work". the best thing to do - help someone who just asked for it. You feel nice about yourself and good thoughts/feeling start sliding in your head.
If in pressure to deliver something, that's the best situation to not think of the past, you automatically "move-on". But even for that, you would have to tell your mind to focus on what's in hand. When you solve, deliver something or help someone, your mind starts working in a positive way, your view changes in positivism and you feel you've been productive, despite of a "bad day".

And believe it or not, you sometimes even get answers to unresolved feelings from the past.
that way you can be wise on your actions as a result of the frustration you just had. Isn't that good?

And Yes!!!..just 2 steps!!!.. its not that big a problem.. its all in your head after-all.

  1. Sound advice and a good technique. However, its not easy to execute (as you said). 9 out of 10 times you will fail. But its important to try it sometime. Its just like trying something new just to see whether it works or not. I completely agree with stwp 2. I need to do that more.
